中国.泰宁联合国教科文组织世界地质公园（Tainning Global Geopark, China）
Geographic location：The Geopark is located in Southeast China， Asia
Geographic Coordinate：Longitude: 116°54′00″E～117°18′11″E；Latitude: 26°37′26″N～27°05′35″N.
The geopark occupies 492.50 km2， which winds its way around 5-35 km wide in an east-west direction and 65km long in a north-south direction.
Taining Global Geopark is a synthesizing type park characterized by multi-morphometric Danxia landform, granite landform and tectonic landform, as well as wonderful ecosystem, rich historical culture connotation. It is an all-in-one destination satisfying purposes on science research exploration, scientific education, sightseeing, relaxation and vacation with its distinct scientific value and marvelous natural and humanistic value.
The geopark consists of 4 major scenic areas, namely, Shiwang Scenic Area, Golden Lake Scenic Area, Baxian Cliff Scenic Area and Jinnao Mountain Scenic Area and assembled by a sightseeing district of Taining Ancient City.
ShiwangScenic Area is 107.90 km2, including Tiancheng Mountain, Putuo Mountain and Red Rock Mountain.
Golden Lake Scenic Area is 114.78 km2, consisting of Fengyan, Zhaixia Grand Canyon, Golden Lake, and Cat Mountain.
Baxian Cliff Scenic Area occupies 64.10 km2, comprising Longwang Rock, Dayading and Baiya Mountin.
Jinnao Mountain Scenic Area includes Baishi ding, Baofeng Mountain with an area of 14.44 km2.
其中，丹霞地貌景区252.74 km2，占51.3%，花岗岩地貌景区14.44 km2，占2.9%。目前，泰宁已开发上清溪、状元岩、九龙潭、大金湖、寨下大峡谷、猫儿山和泰宁古城等景点。
Among them, Danxia Landform areas account for 252.74 km2，51.3% of the total. Granite landform areas are 14.44 km2，2.9% of the total. Some areas have been developed for tourism purpose, like Shangqing Stream, Zhuangyuan Rock, Jiulong Lake, DaGolden Lake, Zhaixia canyon and Taining ancient city etc.
Geological heritages include completely outcropped Mesozoic strata sequences, fauna and flora fossils, rocks and minerals, typical tectonic relics and sedimentary structure remains, etc.
Representative of the Mesozoic West Pacific Active Continental Margin Tectonic Setting
The geopark has experienced formation and disintegration of Cathaysian plate, based on geological background of the Caledon Orogen, Tethys Tectonic Development, being the successive third era of geologic time, including the Upper Triassic, the Jurassic, the Cretaceous strata and Neogene of Cenozoic, the Quaternary stratum, integrated magma and the record of tectonism, it has been well-preserved the important geological heritages since the Upper Triassic Period, including stratum, tectonics, rock ,mineral, landform etc. It has presented the formation of West Pacific continental margin mobile belt in the Mesozoic period and the process of formation and evolvement. Especially, extension, rift-depression, bimodal volcanic eruption, the formation and evolvement of Red Beds Basin, evolvement and acidic magmatic intrusion during the Cretaceous Period, all of these has represented the special history of geological evolvement for West Pacific Continental Margin Active Belt during the Cretaceous Period.
Representative of Young Stage Danxia Landform
The total distribution area of Danxia Landform occupies 252.74 km2; it belongs to the biggest county, which has Danxia landforms in coastal province, southeast of China. The Danxia Landforms in the geopark is still in the youth stage according to the evolutionary circle theory; The various kinds of Danxia Landforms are presenting in the geo-park, developing mainly on weathering, the water erosion, and the action of gravity, while the karst function as subsidiary. The positive landforms has developed well in the geo-park, such as Danxia peak-cluster, peak-forest, stone castles, stone walls, etc. The Negative Landform in the geo-park has been developed and preserved better than other Danxia landform sites, such as some Danxia Caves, including incised meander, incised valley, lane-valley, line-valley etc. The characteristics of Negative Landform in the geopark are extremely outstanding at home or abroad. The Danxia Landform in Taining County is the representative of young stage Danxia Landforms, with complete types, abundant landscapes and beautiful sceneries among the uncovered 650 Danxia Landform sits in china. The in-depth research results of Danxia Landform, including valley and cave, etc. have been enriched perfected and developed the theory of Danxia Landform. Furthermore, here is one of the areas with in-depth and abundant research achievements.
Unique Tectonic Landform Heritage
There developed a large amount of faults and joints during Mesozoic to Cenozoic inside the geopark area. Those cross-cutting joints and faults are fundamental factors to control the developing pattern of Danxia Landform and geomorphic configuration of monomer in the geo-park; the joints, fractures developed in Neocene are ideal subject to study the neo-tectonics, tectonic stress field in Cenozoic and the relationship between the tectonics and the formation of Danxia Landforms, it is an important place to involve in scientific research and science popularizing.In the geopark, there is the largest Chong’an-Shicheng rift zone of the active continental margin in southeast China which controlled the volcanic eruption and magmatic intrusion in the Mesozoic Era as well as the development of the rift basin and subsequent landform formation. The distinct geological setting is highly related with the pattern of landforms and individual landform morphology. The geopark is a typical subject to study the rift zone with great scientific value.
Abundant Volcanic Landforms Heritage
Furthermore, there are abundant other heritages including volcanic eruption relics, magmatic intrusion, fossils, minerals, ancient mining relics and ancient human-being ruins. All those characteristics compose a distinctive integrated Geopark with rich connotation.
The acid ignimbrite of the lower part of Red Beds Basin, Rhyolite and Basalt in the Upper Cretaceous Period formed a combination of bimodal basic-acid lava, which is typical representatives of volcanism in the Upper Cretaceous and concrete behavior of spreads and rift-depression of crust in the West Pacific continental margin mobile belt. It’s worthy of protecting and studying. It is well-preserved 20 heritages of volcanic landforms and special lava landforms in the Lower Cretaceous Period in the south of the geopark, which not only have unusual tectonic landscapes and sound eco-environment for sight-seeing, scientific research and science popularizing, but also have important significance of protection.
The Heritage of Multiphase Magmatic Intrusion Events
The Gneissic Quartz Diorites, monzonite Orthoclase Granite in Caledon belong to the typical chitinous Granite; The orthoclase granite in middle period of Yanshanian comes from typical syenogranite under the compression of the active continental margin; As the special heritages of magmatic action in continental margin mobile belts, the quartz monzonite in the Upper Period of Yanshan mountain, including Diorites, Quartz, Biotite, Augite , hornblende, is the typical mixing liquid granite. So the Granites reveals in the different period have important significance for scientific research.
Geopark is located in Taining ancient city which has a long history and profound culture relics with high aesthetic value and historical and cultural value. There are mainly 4 representative types.
Taining boasts a reputation as “typical ancient town of Han and Tang dynasty, Famous city of North and South Han dynasty.” Shangshu Mansion is national key cultural relics protection unit, Shide Tang is the most well-preserved architectural complex in southern China；Ganlu Temple was built up exquisitely, which is a masterpiece in Chinese Temple construction history and well-known worldwide.
Ancient archaeological sites and historical ruins
There are mainly neolithic Chilingteng site, alchemy furnace basement of the late western Han dynasty, ancient city wall, Hutou fortress of Song dynasty, Zhongshi fortress of Yuan dynasty, stone fortress of late Ming dynasty and early qing dynasty, Ancient wells,ancient tombs of Tang and Five Dynasties, Zou yongfu tomb, Zou yinglong tomb; Li chunye tomb; monks’ tomb of fengyan Temple, Groups of dagoba; the old house of Zhude(one of Chinese ten greart generals), Zhou Enlai(the first prime minister of people’s republic of china),Theformer site of oriental Army’s headquarters during the second Chinese civil war, etc.
The traditional Luo dance (exorcism dance) has been carried down from generation to generation, dating back 3000 years in Yin and Shang Dynasty. The exorcism dance art is known as the “Alive cultural fossil” and has been listed into Fujian provincial intangible culture heritage. Meiling Opera, kwon as the “Best Opera Troupe in the world”, is a valuable local opera. It has a history of more than 300 years and has been entitled to national intangible culture heritage.
The popular folk customers such as Lantern Ornament, Lamp dancing and the Ground Tea mirror a vivid the life attitude of Taining people. There are more than 3000 collections in the Taining County Museum, which are exhibited respectively in “artistry of ancient architecture exhibition hall”, “historical culture relics exhibition hall”, “Li Chuye family Wax Museum”, “Taining traditional lantern festival and folk-customer Museum” and “celebrities’ calligraphy and painting, inscriptions exhibition hall”.
Taining has abundant historical relics with thousands and hundreds of cultural accumulation closely related to the Danxia Caves, which is a historical record of how human took advantages of the natural resources. Some caves were Buddhist holy land for religion cultivation, some were natural classroom for students pursuing knowledge; some were farmers’ paradise. Some were peaceful tomb for ancestral souls. Those abundant cultural relics nourish Taining history and enrich its connotation, forming an unique Danxia cave cultural community including scholar culture, rock temple culture, seclusion culture, cave dwelling culture, cliff burial culture etc.
